Maybe You've Heard About National Adoption Month

As an expectant mother considering placement for your child, maybe you've heard about National Adoption Month. Maybe you heard it on the news, read about it in your local newspaper or saw it talked about somewhere on Adoption.com's website. Maybe you think it concerns you, your baby and the adoption plan that you might be making for your child.

Well, it doesn't.

Hold on. Back up. Wait. What?

It sounds ridiculous, right, that as a mother considering adoption, National Adoption Month isn't about you or your child at all. But it's true. National Adoption Month... [...] Read more!

What To Do Wednesdays

Wednesday. It's the middle of the week. You've just spent two days procrastinating doing things that need to be done. You have two days ahead of you that likely already have plans to get ready for weekend events. Wednesday. It could go either way. It could be totally unproductive or you could make it your most productive day of the week.

So why am I posting this in the Unplanned Pregnancy blog?

I remember being pregnant with the Munchkin. I was often paralyzed by fear, five days a week. On Monday I would think, "I need to call such-and-such agency and ask this question." But my fear and anxiety would kick in and I'd say, "I'll do it tomorrow." Monday would fade into Tuesday and before I... [...] Read more!

Canola oil consumed during pregnancy lowers breast cancer risk for offspring

Women whose mothers consumed canola oil during pregnancy and breast-feeding may be less likely to develop breast cancer than those whose mothers consumed corn oil, a new study suggests.

Researchers fed pregnant and lactating mice a diet high in either corn oil, which contains 50 percent omega-6 polyunsaturated fats, or canola oil, which contains only 20 percent omega-6 polyunsaturated fats. Canola oil also has a much greater percentage of omega-3 polyunsaturated fat -- 10 percent compared with 0.5 percent in corn oil.

The study, expected to be presented Tuesday at the American Association for Cancer Research's annual conference, found that pregnant and lactating mice fed the corn oil diet gave birth to females with a greater risk of developing breast tumors than those who ate the diet higher in canola oil.

What is an Incompetent Cervix?

An incompetent cervix is a weak cervix. The weakness of the cervix makes it prone to thinning and dilating before the baby is ready to be born. In a typical pregnancy, the cervix remains tightly closed until the end of pregnancy, when it will begin to thin in preparation for labor.

Adults Experience Unplanned Pregnancy? No Way!

I was in the process of writing yet another post about unintended teen pregnancy when I came across this article. I wasn't surprised by the title at all: Many adults face unplanned pregnancies. As a direct example of that, my brother and I were both surprises for my (married) parents. The article gets to the point right away with this very important quote:

Holiday Survival

If you're experiencing an unplanned pregnancy, you may be a little apprehensive about this holiday season. The holidays are notorious for family gatherings, running into old friends and general public meetings. How far along you are in your pregnancy will have an affect on how you might need to deal with people and their questions this season.

If you're just newly pregnant, you won't likely have to field questions in public places. Running into a friend at the mall won't present a requirement to explain the basketball under your coat if you still aren't showing.... [...] Read more!

One Unplanned Pregnancy Means Another?

I came across an interesting article and study yesterday. It seems that women who experience an unplanned pregnancy (while young) are more likely than others to have another unplanned pregnancy. The study says that these women are more likely to have one within two years.

For me, that wasn't the case. Exactly. While both of our sons were (meticulously!) planned, my husband and I did experience an unplanned pregnancy in between our two sons. I was on hormonal... [...] Read more!

Encouragement from Another's Denial

Finding out that you are expecting an unexpected baby can be difficult no matter your station in life. Whether you are young and single or old and married or any combination thereof, the news can be hard to take at first. When you are the first in your "group" who is experiencing an unplanned pregnancy, you can feel very overwhelmed with those kind of feelings. You can even beat yourself up for feeling the way that you are, certain that it is a sign that you are not meant to be a good mother.

I remember those feelings. I let them dictate my pregnancy and plans.... [...] Read more!

What Do You Have To Be Thankful For?

You might be kind of torn today if you're experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. Especially if you are dealing with family issues or fallout from/with the baby's biological father, you might not be feeling especially thankful.

I remember that feeling! I do! I was very pregnant with the daughter I relinquished for adoption when Thanksgiving rolled around that year. While I had been on bed rest and staying at my own apartment, my parents brought me to their home the evening before Thanksgiving. I woke up on that Thursday morning and felt... different. Tiger Woods' Wife Pregnant With Their Second Child

Even with his golf done for the year, Tiger Woods found something to celebrate Tuesday: His wife is pregnant with their second child.

Woods said on his Web site that Elin is expecting in late winter without being more specific on a due date.

He has not played since his U.S. Open victory in June, and two weeks later had reconstructive surgery on his left knee that put him out for the year. Woods' first child, daughter Sam, was born the Monday after the 2007 U.S. Open.

"Elin is feeling great and we are both thrilled," Woods said. "While my injury has been disappointing and frustrating, it has allowed me to spend a lot of time watching Sam grow. I can't begin to tell you how rewarding it is being a dad and spending time with her and Elin.

"The injury has been a blessing and a disappointment."

The world No. 1 player has begun rehabilitation and has traveled recently to Dubai and New York for business projects.

Woods had said after he married in 2004 that he wanted more than one child. Woods was an only child, while Elin has a twin sister.
