Bringing childbirth to an orgasmic level

File this one under: WHAT?!

The documentary Orgasmic Birth, quietly released last spring, gained attention when ABC's news magazine 20/20 announced that it will air a few minutes of footage on January 2. The news sent mommy bloggers into a tizzy of excitement and now everyone from Lisa Belkin of The New York Times to Tracy Clark-Flory of Salon has written something about orgasming, yes orgasming, during childbirth. (Sign me up for a third! Please!)

The documentary follows 11 beautiful and natural births; two of the women orgasm during labor. Amber Hartnell of Hawaii, who gave birth to her son in a tub in her yard, says: "All of a sudden the orgasm just started rolling through and rolling through, and it just kept coming, and my whole body was spiraling and rolling, and I was laughing and crying." Similarly, Tamra Larter of New Jersey says: "It was happening, and I could hardly breathe, and it was like, 'oh, that feels good.' That's all I could say really."

What to Do: Prenatal Care

I cannot tell you how important good prenatal care is for both you and your child. While the level of intervention by your care provider can vary due to personal preference or practice preference, some form of making sure that you are in good health and that the baby is in good health is your best course of action. While you may (or may not) have experienced a pregnancy before if you are reading this blog, you are likely experiencing an unplanned pregnancy this time around. That little scenario may leave you concerned with how to procure prenatal care.

Cop Tickets Woman in Labor on Her Way to Hospital

Jennifer and John Davis wrote a letter to the paper explaining they were jammed up in traffic trying to get to the Hospital.

The couple says they started driving in the breakdown lane, which is illegal.

They said two state troopers waived them through, once they found out Jennifer was in labor.

The Davis' say a third trooper pulled them over and even after making Jennifer show him her belly to prove she was pregnant, he still made them wait while he wrote up a citation.

A police spokesman said the trooper who gave the ticket made a decision to enforce the breakdown lane law.

The couple says they do plan to appeal the ticket, but are still not sure if they are going to file a complaint against the officer.

What to Do: Learn About Birth

Wednesday again and that means it is time for What To Do Wednesdays! This week I'm going to start it off with what seems like an easy step in this process. Trust me, it's a bit more complicated than it will initially sound. Today's task is to learn about birth.

I know you're probably thinking, "Really! Birth is the last thing on my mind right now! That comes later." Well, it does come later. But it is one of those things that will affect you whether you decide to parent or place your child for adoption. It is one of the inevitable factors of pregnancy. Birth happens.

I went into the labor and delivery room with the daughter I relinquished for adoption horribly unprepared for what would... [...] Read more!
